Todd and the Book of Pure Evil S1 Ep. 1 “Todd the metal God” Review “Spoilers”

Okay I’m doing reviews for every episode of Todd and the book of pure evil I’m doing season 1 first; season 2 won’t be posted till about April. So I’m starting with season 1 episode 1 Todd and the book of pure evil: “Todd the Metal God” Spoilers included.

The show basically begins on a stage, Todd Smith is having his heavy metal fantasy where he’s the best guitar player in the world and along in the back his one armed friend Curtis is drumming as if he had 2 arms. The fantasy ends when Curtis’ arm fly’s off and lands right in front of judges for auditions for the battle of the bands. Todd and Curtis apparently suck in real life and get booed off the stage by a crowed of masturbators which was started by the boyfriend of the girl of his dreams, Jenny Kolinsky.

Jenny talks to the school counselor (Atticus Murphy Junior) about how her father mysteriously disappeared about a year ago and how she was snooping through his office and found a picture of a man in a robe with pentagrams engraved to his hand holding a book. Atticus tells her that her dad just left her and that book meant nothing. Jenny storms out in a rage and Atticus picks up his phone and dials a number and talks about how they’ll need to take care of the daughter too.

Todd who is now depressed and Curtis’ help being of no help at all, smashes his guitar where three parking lot metal head stoners tell him about a magical book that will grant him his any wish, so Todd runs into a trophy case where the book’s been hiding while daydreaming about his dream girl Jenny. He offers the school janitor Jimmy his lucky condom and some loose cash to open the trophy case. He goes home and finds a spell that will make him a metal god.

Todd says a spell from the book and after a few moments the book does nothing he thinks he wasted his time when all of a sudden it turns into a guitar. He goes to school and challenges Jenny’s boyfriend to a guitar duel where Todd threatens to make him bleed out of his ass. So in the lunchroom Todd play’s against Jenny’s boyfriend. Todd slays him and makes him bleed out his ass just like he promised; as Jenny’s boyfriend wants her to help him she’s too busy noticing the patterns on the guitar are very similar to the book in the picture.

Todd outside talking with his new friends kicks Curtis out of there metal band “Barbarian Apocalypse”, now it’s performance night and jenny wants to get to the bottom of the whole Todd and the book of pure evil thing, so she tries to seduce him, but a demonic conscience makes Todd lock her in his locker.

Todd who is now possessed by a demon plays on stage and his hypnotic music forces everyone to head bang so hard they bleed. Curtis just so happened to be walking through the halls where he heard jenny’s cries for help. He frees her from the locker where they go to the battle of the bands room. Jenny see’ everyone’s under a spell so she tells Curtis to plug his ears, and pulls the fire alarm. Everyone rushes out except for Todd who is still possessed, Curtis, Jenny, and Atticus who is hiding in the back. Todd jumps off the stage and is ready to go and kill Curtis and jenny when jenny takes Curtis’ fake arm and throws it at Todd who trips on it and drops the guitar of pure evil. Curtis gets down and pulls out his lighter thinking it’s a good idea, but jenny, possessed Todd, and Atticus think otherwise. Curtis looks at them and say’s “sorry but this bad bitch has got to burn.” And sets it on fire. The guitar suddenly turns back into the book and flies away. Todd, Jenny, and Curtis are now walking away discussing matters of if they get paid or not. Atticus who is in a mysterious room surrounded by Satanists talking about what had happened.

I thought this was awesome for a pilot episode and the episodes just got better and better, I recommend you check this show out on the space channel, comedy network, fearnet, and now on Syfy UK.

Interveiw with Todd And The Book Evil Star - Stephen Arbuckle

Okay after my interview with Alex House I made it my goal to try to interview all the cast and creators of Todd and the book of pure evil. So my next twitter victim was Stephen Arbuckle.

Me: do you want to do that interview?

Stephen: hey. When it goes down how do we do it?

Me: we would have to I.m. each other (by the little feather click the the guy) and under direct messages.

Stephen: haha. see the little man by the feather on twitter

Me: ha-ha Okay so let’s start this thing. How do you like working on the show

(after a few minutes of waiting for a reply)

Stephen: Its great. So much fun the first season we were in and out on set a lot quicker for the shooting

but the second we were there for a longer time haha sorry took a min to see it

Me: oh ha-ha ok

Stephen: canada has slower internet haha, slower meaning I steal it from the guy next door:)

Me: oh god, haha. what do you think will happen after todd ends

Stephen: After it ends? Hope thats not soon we have such a good time. Same as everything I guess we all look for diffrent work. season 2 just started there on fearnet right? you didn't get to see it yet.

Me: it starts in 5 days 4 not including today, and I probally wont see any of it till around the time the dvd comes out cause they wait a while for on-demand and yeah its a great show I hope it lasts a while or has more episodes in a season

Stephen: yah for sure

Me: ok what is your favorite Todd episode

Stephen: There is one that we do during season 2 that you didn't get to see yet. But once you see it you will know. The metal dudes loved it haha norman(eddie) just called me. what a "loser"

Me: haha totally

Stephen: haha I'm telling him you said that.

Me: Ha-ha put in a good word for me too

Stephen: for sure

Me: ha-ha ok moving on now how many seasons do you personally think the show will last

Stephen: You never know with the shows. You just hope for the best right. We have a really great fan base now with a lot of people who really like it So we are hoping for a few more for sure. Just started in the U.K a few days ago to

Me: yeah I saw that and i felt sorry for myself because I’m a season behind but they’re 2 seasons

Stephen: Its great to be involved in something that people really enjoy and tell you about how much they enjoy it. And something that is so crazy that is still able to be put on Tv. yah. well they just started season 1 so the U.S is ahead of them the U.K just started season 1 so let them know that u love season 2

Me: ha-ha Definitely what’s it like from playing Todd to being one of the metal dudes

Stephen: you mean from the short film to this?

Me: yeah

Stephen: Well its different characters and its a different Todd then the short film for sure

Me: haha, i found the short film to be dark and the show to be very clever and funny

Stephen: Craig and Anthony are so cool. They put so much time into it from the short film . So glad to be involved in it from nine years ago

Me: yeah they seem really cool all of you guys do

Stephen: haha yah that is true todd in the short was hard core EDDIE "loser" no friends no nothing total dirt bag loser. Lol fun to play tho.

Me: yeah, I have a friend who looks exactly like you did in the short film Im always telling him he looks like you

Stephen: yah its a great cast and crew we all enjoy it so much. And sometimes you do shows or jobs your not so into. But this everyone seems to have a good time

Me: ha-ha yeah ok here is probably my final question, were you serious about that remake of the beast must die

Stephen: what a loser hehe

Me: who me or Norman haha

Stephen:The beast must die would be a crazy cool remake. The idea is killer

Me: yeah as long as the wolf isn't CGI

Stephen: And I love a good werewolf, yess I know!!! so bad. I hate that so much

Me: They ruin so many movies, Im an old school horror guy. the fact that todd rarely has cgi is probably one of the reasons I love it so much

Stephen: But not a real one. just good make up haha

Me: haha or puppet

Stephen: good. The put so much into making all that for the show. And as you know it makes a big difference.

Thank you Stephen For doing this, catch season one in the uk and season 2 in the U.S. on fearnet on March 13th

Interveiw with Todd And The Book Evil Star - Alex House

Okay so on twitter I discovered Alex House's Account and tweeted him asking for an interview and sent him a link to the website. Alex being one of my favorite actors I just wanted to see if this was real. I mean I'm Talking to Alex F**king house even though I’m sure F**king is not his middle name. He said yea and that he was honored.
Me: okay let’s start this thing how do you like working todd and the book of pure evil
Alex:can we so it over IM?
Me: Sure (feeling stupid)
(After almost a day and 10 minutes or so of me feeling like a dumbass looking for the I.m. on twitter we started the interview)
me:how do you like working todd and the book of pure evil
alex: ok, to answer your first question. I love working on todd, it's a lot of fun and it's a great opportunity that I've been given. All the cast and crew are like my second family. It's a blast.
me: cool um okay if you were to be in a remake and portray any character who would you portray
alex: a remake of what? anything?
me: yeah
alex: When I was growing up I really loved S.E. Hinton books. I'd have to say I would love to try and play Dallas Winston in the outsiders.Or Daryl Curtis. Or Even ponyboy depending on how old I was.Or Bender in the breakfast club, he's the man. Although for the record I'm not usually a huge supporter of remakes, if it's not broke, don't fix it.
Me:cool man i agree about the remake thing the best is usually the original unless its in like good hands, I personally think you'd makea good portrayal of ash of the evil dead but yeah
Alex: hahaha, thanks man, I'd never touch that one with a ten foot pole. If I messed it up I'd get my ass kicked for the rest of my life.
Me:lol haha yeah but yeah you just got the look for it
Alex:heh, thanks man.
Me: no problem, um whats your favorate todd episode in your opinion
Alex: I really like Episode 210 "Two girls one tongue" I have a feeling that is a lot of people's favorite. I also am very fond of 213 black tie showdown, I don't know if it's still called that.

Me: Cool man Im from the U.S. so i haven't seen them yet but I know what there about because of youtube, and i have a question about the episode 2 girls one tounge.

Alex:I hope I can answer it for you!
Me:haha im sure you can, was it acually the cast singing in the musical episodes

Alex:Yes sir. All of us. We're not all classically trained singers as some people have rudely pointed out, but yeah Mel (hannah) is incredible.
and Jill, who played charlotte, has a beautiful voice as well. Solely speaking for myself I was just trying to not be horrendous.
We recorded those songs in one day though, and I think they were given to us to learn maybe 4 or 5 days before, all the while we were on set
12 hours a day 5 days a week. That's just so the haters back off and give us a break. We work hard. But, haters gonna hate.

Me: haha I agree and I think your all great singers
Alex:Thanks very much. That means a lot. I know I'm faaaar from the best, so it's cool, but I appreciate that.
Me:Yeah haters can go a little too far sometimes but mostly the hardcore fans kick there asses (metaphorically, bad speller) but yeah i think you guys are just wonderfull
Alex:It's true, One hardcore fan is worth way more than the opinion of 100 haters.
Me:totally, how many seasons do you think your gonna be picked up for considering you guys are in high school
Alex:Oh man, these are good questions. I have *no* idea at all. I've said before that I'm not sure if I would want to do the show into todd's late twenties or whatever, I feel that the setting needs to be highschool. We have a slew of talented writers though. I'm sure they could
come up with some good storylines in college or whatever, although I'd argue that todd wouldn't ever graduate highschool, he'd probably drop
out and get a job or something, I dunno though, we'll see. I hope we go for at least one more in the meantime.
Me: yeah I'd like the show to stick around for at least a good 4 or 5 seasons you know maybe you guys get held back or summer school
Alex: yeah
Me: do you think the show will lead to greater things for your career
Alex: Wouldn’t it be funny if I was like "Yeah man! I'm gonna be soo blah blah blah" and then it didn't happen? Well that would be sad really...
I think every role is in some ways an opportunity, and that todd has definitely been a great opportunity for me to explore this type of genre, and I can only say that I Hope I can go ahead and continue being a working actor. So, I don't really think I can say whether or not It will lead to a greater career.
Me: Yeah man I agree, what's it like working with Chris Leavins?
Alex: It's a really eye opening experience. Chris works incredibly hard on his material. He kind of sets the bar at this level where I think I'd like to be comedically, but he just completely blows me out of the water. I'm good with that, watching him is an absolutely invaluable learning experience.
Me: i think he's just hilarious it sucks that he doesn't do cute with Chris anymore though
Alex: He’s a funny guy.
Me:definetly, did you ever watch the short film that the show was based off of
Alex: I didn't watch it until after first season.
Me: cool I just watched the other day online. Are you anything like you Todd?
Alex: If I'm on set I am more like him. I get in the habit of being in character and tend to act like him more. At home I'm very different though.
Me: awesome man, do you have any techniques to learning lines and actions for the show
Alex: Sort of, as far as line memorization goes, it's actually something that's luckily pretty easy for me. Actions... what do you mean by that?
Me: like when you fought the monster cock I saw an extra where you had to remember what to do and when
Alex: oh yeah, no we have stunt guys that come in and teach us that stuff. so to remember it we just run through it a bunch of times.
*I would like to thank Alex House for doing this it meant a lot for me after all him being one of 5 people that inspire me. Thank You Alex.
